Ok, here's the hole
for the thermal mass being dug behind the filter stand. It's about 6 feet
deep. I had to rent a backhoe for a job I was doing anyway (I do landscaping,
among other things), so it didn't cost me anything extra to use it for
this. You can see my existing 44 gallon tank. The bug zapper gives my
fish bar-b-qued bugs at night, as they drop into the tank. The white sheets
are styrofoam insulation sheets that I put on the sides of the tank at
night, because the (2) 300 watt heaters that are in the tank can't keep
up with the cold nights.
Another view of the hole where the thermal mass will be built.
The Hole....
Building the thermal mass. You can see the rebar on the bottom....
All the cores were filled with concrete. I made a wooden box, that let's
me pour the concrete into each core.
Had to reroute a sprinkler line.....
